A new born baby girl was apparently abandoned in a public toilet in Beijing on Sunday. State newspaper People's Daily reports that witnesses called officer to the toilet in the Chinese Xicheng District after they heard a baby crying. Police reported that the baby was inside the sewer of the public toilet.

'' The baby was found upside down and the whole body has fallen into the sewer. I could vaguely saw the baby's feet from the side ,'' police officer Qian Feng told the newspaper.
At first the police thought they would destroy the toilet to rescue the baby, but Qian reached into the sewer and pulled the baby to safety.
The police are searching for the mother of the new born baby girl. The baby who was taken to a Beijing hospital didn't appear to be injured.
An estimated 10,000 unwanted children are abandoned in China every year, Reuters reported in 2014.
