The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has said people with gunshot wounds should be treated first in hospitals before reporting or demanding for a police report. Most hospitals will not treat a patient with gunshot wounds, until a police report is presented.

He made this known in a statement released by the Police spokesman, Emmanuel Chuwku on Friday, 21st of August, 2015.
''This has become imperative following neglect and consequent untimely death of victims in this regard out of fear of being implicated without involvement''
''Doctors on duty are equally duty bound to treat victims of gunshot wounds and further inform police of relevant facts. The safety of Nigerians is a collaborative effort of all and sundry'' the statement said.
