Kaduna State Government to train beggars

Kaduna State government has promised to build a rehabilitation home for beggars and the physically challenged persons in the state. The physically challenged and beggars had earlier protested about the ban on street begging and hawking by the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The State Governor banned begging and hawking after a bomb went off in Sabon Gari Local Government Area in Zaria, Kaduna State and killed 22 people and injured several others.  The beggars described the ban as an abuse on their fundamental human rights as citizens of the state and they threatened to drag the state to court if it doesn't reverse the decision.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai had a reconciliation meeting with them. He told them he banned begging and hawking for the peace and security of the state.  He promised them when he went to their Kano road make shift home that the government has concluded plans to train and rehabilitate them in various skills.

The leader of people with disability, Rilwanu Abdullahi, have said the beggars have agreed to leave the streets if the state government will fulfill its promise.
