The people of Benue State have been rejoicing as the state government has commenced payment of salaries. The Governor, Samuel Ortom gave the order that June salary be paid with immediate effect, even though most civil servants in the state who got alerts for their May salary some weeks ago are excited about this new development. The governor who stated that he inherited a debt of N90 billion from the Suswam administration.
The governor after assumption of office told workers in the state that his administration would ensure salary arrears be cleared and he sought for a loan of N10 billion to pay salaries, arrears and other state commitments.
Civil servants were seen in various markets in Makurdi the Benue State capital and other major towns in the state to purchase household items, some converged at unwinding spots discussing the new development.
