Man shoots wife, mother of 6 over corn meal

A MIDDLE-AGED man and former member of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, Mathias Nweze, has been arrested by the police for allegedly shooting and killing one of his wives and mother of six, Theresa.
A native of Umuida, Enugu Ezike in the Nsukka area of the state, Nweze went to the police himself to report the matter.
In his report to the police on Monday, he claimed that while he was sleeping in his house at about 11.00 p.m. on Saturday night, his generating set went off twice , arousing the suspicion that robbers might have invaded his compound.
He told the police that consequently, he brought his pump action gun and fired severally at the direction of the generating set.

Nweze, who was said to be living with two wives as at the time of the incident , said that in the process of tying to shoot whoever was out there, one of the bullets hit his wife , leaving her critically injured.
However, some neighbours have dismissed Nweze’s story, claiming that he must have made up that story to the police to save his neck.
Two neighbours who spoke on condition of anonymity, narrated how the suspect had given money to his late wife to cook some delicacy for him, but was angered when he found out that rather than what he asked for, he was served something else, which they identified as ‘corn meal’.
He was said to have been furious over the corn meal and in the face-off that ensued , shot and killed his wife, who hailed from Imufu in the same Igbo-Eze North Local Council.
She was later rushed to New Testament Hospital, Ogurute Igbo-Eze North, where she was confirmed dead
The Enugu State Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the report, adding that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy while a full-scale investigation into the incident has begun.

  1. How many rounds of ammunition did he have loaded in the riffle, that he may be shooting aimlessly at the "suspected armed robbers"....? So much more to this story than meet the eyes...
