Three-month-old baby stolen in Benue church

A strange woman was said to have stolen a three-month-old baby during a mass at St. Theresa's Church at Anyiin in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. Sources, who were at the church where the incident took place, told newsmen that on Sunday, an unknown woman, who was waiting at the entrance of the church, offered to help the mother of the stolen baby, Mrs. Mbatumun Ose, to hold the child who was being backed by an older sister. The unsuspecting mother, Daily Sun gathered, innocently gave the baby to the strange woman but asked her to follow her to seat on the front pew in the front row of the church where she usually sat. The unknown woman was said to have told the baby's mother that she preferred to seat at the back row with the baby and she agreed without sensing any foul play. Oseh, according to the source, then left the woman with the baby and went to sit on the front row and asked her older child, who earlier backed the baby, to sit with the woman. After the baby’s mother had settled down for the church service, the strange woman sent the older child to buy Tom Tom for her. As soon as the girl left, she absconded with the baby. Commenting on the incident, Parish Priest of the Church, Revd. Fr. Bernard Achuku, expressed shock at the development, saying that efforts were on to uncover the perpetrator. Daily Sun gathered that the incident had been reported to the police at Ayiin and Ugba. When contacted, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ezeala, who confirmed the incident, said the matter was being investigated.
