Luck has ran out on a driver after he planned with his gang members to steal his boss' car in Lagos.
The suspects after they were arrested
A driver, Joe Zangir, 37, who allegedly connived with two others to
steal a Hyundai SUV with registration number, FST 974 AY, valued at
N5.5m belonging to his employer, Olotu Bamijoko has been arrested by
operatives of the Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad, FSARS at Adeniji
Adele Road.
Police identified the other suspects as Peter Angwa, 49 and Daniel Gabriel, 31.
Police alleged that trouble started for the driver on 11 June, 2018
at KFC phase I, Lekki, Lagos when his employer directed him to take her
SUV to a mechanic to service the vehicle.
Police said that instead of taking the vehicle to a mechanic as
directed by his employer,the driver drove the Vehicle to go and meet his
accomplices to help him look for a buyer for it.
Police further alleged that nemesis, however, caught up with the
suspects when the alleged buyer they approached to buy the vehicle for
N2.5m suspected the vehicle to be a stolen one and tipped off the Deputy
Commissioner of Police,DCP in charge of FSARS, Lagos, Mr Ibrahim Kaoje
about the transactions.
Following the information, Kaoje adviced the alleged buyer to play
along with the suspects till his men arrived the scene and he deployed a
crack team led by DSP Ibrahim Yusuf to the scene to arrest the suspects
and recover the SUV.
Detectives swooped on the suspects, arrested them and recovered the SUV from them and took them to the station
During investigation, the driver allegedly confessed to the crime
that he had wanted to sell the jeep to enable him use his share from the
proceeds to start a new life, even though his employer was paying him
well and taken good care of him.
The suspects were charged before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a two-count charge of felony to wit, stealing.
Police counsel, C. N Odii informed the court in charge No G/41/2018
that the accused persons committed the alleged crime in Lagos.
Odii said that the offences, the accused committed were punishable
under sections 411 and 287(5)(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State,
2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime and
Magistrate M.O Olajuwon granted them bail in the sum of N400,000 each
with two sureties each in like sum.
Olajuwon adjourned the case till 26 July, 2018 for mention and
ordered that the defendants be kept at the Ikoyi Prison till they
perfected the bail conditions.
