Imoukhuede may succeed Sanusi as next CBN governor
Here is how Tribune is reporting this news:
AS the race on who succeeds the incumbent Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Lamido Sanusi in June next year gets tougher, there are strong indications that the Presidency and key cabinet members of the administration may have settled for the Group Managing Director of Access Bank, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede.
Since Sanusi confirmed in March this year that he will not seek second term, various individuals have been jostling for the plum job.
Apart from Imoukhuede, Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda; Chairman of Stanbic IBTC Bank, Atedo Peterside and a renowned economist and Chief Executive Officer, Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Mr Bismarck Rewane, among others, were speculated as frontline contestants.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that apart from the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala and Sanusi, President Goodluck Jonathan has given his full support to the Access Bank boss to clinch the job.
A source close to Imoukhuede confirmed to Nigerian Tribune that the coordinating Minister of the Economy and Mallam Sanusi actually sold the candidature of the Access Bank boss to President Jonathan.
With this development, President Jonathan may have dumped his kinsman, Peterside. The Stanbic IBTC Chairman was also said to rely heavily on Sanusi, a fellow Kings College old boy.
Industry watchers are not surprised at the present scenario as Imoukhuede has been the unofficial personal assistant to the incumbent CBN Governor. Apart from defending Sanusi’s policy at any given forum, he is said to have been understudying him in the last two years.
Imoukhuede who is a member of the Nigeria Economic Management Team (NEMT) is also believed to be a member of the ‘kitchen cabinet’ of President Jonathan which has seen him handling many committees including that of the fuel subsidy.
A financial analyst who pleaded anonymity told Nigerian Tribune that the industry is already expecting Imoukhuede to succeed Sanusi as the next CBN Governor.
According to him, over time, Sanusi has seen Imoukhuede as somebody he can trust and rely on, stressing that the duo are always together at every event.
“We will not be surprised. Imoukhuede is a brilliant young man. He knows what he wants and will always go for it. Apart from Sanusi, he is close to his colleagues and even the Presidency. I wish him good luck,” he said.

200 Level Unilag students drowns @ Elegushi beach
Late Eniola Abiola |
Here is how pmnews is reporting this very tragic event:
A 200-level student of the Department of Dentistry, School of Medicine, University of Lagos, Unilag, Idi-Araba, Eniola Abiola has drowned.
The incident occurred at the Elegushi Beach, Ikate, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, where the deceased was attending a friend’s birthday party.
Abiola was reported to have got to the party at 8:15 p.m. and later joined her friends a few meteres away from the shoreline to take photographs.
An eyewitness told P.M.NEWS that while they were posing for a snapshot, a heavy wave suddenly arose and rolled fiercely to the shore.
“The wave came the first time, but receded. It came a second time, and floored her. As she tried to escape like others, a third one came and swept her away,” she said.
However, rescue effort was impossible at the time, as the life guards at the beach were said to have closed at about 5 p.m. on the fateful day.
When P.M.NEWS visited Abiola’s school this morning, few of her classmates were seen discussing the incident.
Her class representative, simply identified as Seun, said her classmates were still in shock and that they would miss her.
The President, Unilag Students Union, Wale Peters, said: “The death was unfortunate, because the deceased was an easy-going, brilliant and lively girl.”
Effort to get the university to officially comment on the matter was abortive. But an official, who pleaded not to be named because he was not authorised to speak, said the university cannot bear responsibility for Abiola’s death since it occurred outside the school environment.
The deceased father, Dr. Eniola, an eye doctor and university staff was not available for comment at the time of this report.

Banky W speaks up about his rumored beef with Wizkid
Banky W in a recent interview with City People Magazine spoke about EME and all you need to know about the supposed EME/Wizkid split. Enjoy;
When you released that album there was something a lot of people noticed?
Let me tell you that Wizkid wasn’t on the album. First of all, I want to say that what we like to call“Bad Belle People” because they think there may be bad news and when you don’t give them that news they start to create it because I guess bad news sells more than good news. So I want to say categorically that there was no twitter fight. People go on-line and use Photoshop to create my profile and say that I said this and then they go and create Wizkid’s profile and say he said this. More after the cut.
The bottom line is first of all, that never happened and what happened is that we’ve been working on wizzy’s project to make it work internationally and when you are getting to that level things change. He has his own idea of what he wants to do and we are in 100% in support of that and these are things that we dreamed of back in 2009 when I signed him, I felt like this guy can blow all over the world, this guy can you know really be a star and now that it is happened it is a good thing there is a Disturbing London angle he wants to take and so on and so forth and there is a contract in place and he is still signed to EME.
So he is still signed to EME?
Absolutely he is still signed to EME.

'My Oga At The Top' originator, Mr. Shem replaced
In a move some say was a long time coming, Mr. Shem Obafaye, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Lagos Commandant, who popularised the ‘My Oga At the Top’ joke has been redeployed. He was replaced by Mr. Adesuyi Clement, from the Oyo State Command.
As you all know, Mr. Obafaye became popular after his goof on Channels TV when he could not clearly state the NSCDC website because he did not want to give a different address while his Oga at the Top is likely give another. He has since trended on twitter, popular on blackberry, facebook and with graphic illustratins of his famous finger pointing skyward on t-shirts, mugs etc...

Power Outage Disrupts Jonathan’s Easter Service In Lagos
Picture of the President taken while the power was out |
President Goodluck Jonathan’s first Easter Sunday service and celebration in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city was marred by an embarrassing power outage at the Our Savour’s Church Marina, where the President worshipped.
The President speech was interrupted as the power outage occurred while he was delivering his speech to the congregation.
He was talking about his administration’s restructuring of the Nigerian economy when the church was thrown into darkness as seen in the picture on a very sunny day in Lagos.
Laughing along with the cheering congregation, Dr Jonathan remarked that by the power outage, officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria are telling him not to sleep until the nation’s power crisis is fixed.
“They know that I’m here; that’s why they took light, at least to remind me that I must not sleep until we stabilise power. God willing, next year they will not take light” he said.
He however vowed that by next year the power in the church will be uninterrupted.
The Easter Sunday service also had in attendance, former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon.
