Senate President, Bukola Saraki pleads not guilty





Senate President Bukola Saraki who finally appeared at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, where he is facing charges.

Saraki pleaded not guilty to the 13-count charge of false declaration of assets and corruption. Saraki’s lawyer, JB Daudu, had initially tried to prevent Saraki from taking the stand, claiming the tribunal wasn’t meant for criminal charges.  
The tribunal’s chairman, Danladi Umar however ignored Daudu’s request, and insisted Saraki enter the dock and take his plea.
The case has been adjourned till to the 21st of October. Sources say his lawyer said the new date for the case is too close.
