Pope John Paul II to be canonized by the Catholic church

Blessed John Paul II

The Vatican has announced the Pope Francis has approved the 2nd miracle attributed to the late Pope John Paul II which now paves way for his Canonization. A ceremony expected to be held before the year runs out will be held to declare him a Saint. Also to be canonized is Pope John XXIII, who constituted the 2nd Vatican Council where most of the reformations in the church today emerged from.

In the Catholic church, 2 confirmed miracles at least are required before someone can be declared a Saint.

Pope John Paul II had already been credited with asking God to cure a French nun of Parkinson's disease, the same malady he had, before he was beatified in 2011.

The second miracle attributed to his intercession is the inexplicable cure of a Costa Rican woman who prayed through him for help with her medical condition on the day of his beatification.

In the case of Pope John XXIII, who was known as the "good pope", Pope Francis waived the customary rules requiring a second miracle after beatification. John XXIII was beatified in 2000.
