BENUE STATE: Group takes lawmaker to EFCC over alleged N1.6m scam
A CIVIL society organisation, Concerned Benue Citizens Coalition, popularly referred to as the G10, has taken a member of the Benue State House of Assembly, Kenneth Iyo, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly misappropriating the state’s N1.6 million.
In a petition released yesterday to the press in Makurdi by its national president, Philip Agbese, the group maintained that it had also sent the petition to the inspector general of police and other relevant anti-graft agencies.
Iyo is representing Gwer-West state constituency at the Assembly and is being accused of allegedly defrauding the Benue State government of N1.6 million being the money he collected to embark on a trip to South Africa alongside his 29 other colleagues.
The group further alleged that the lawmaker had fallen short of constitutional demands expected of public officers as he never embarked on the said trip neither did he return the money to the coffers of the government.
