Tekno Paid Danfo Drivers N2m For 'Jogodo' But Ignored Me - Professor Linkin Cries Out

Ajegunle-bred singer, Professor Linkin has come for Tekno who failed to acknowledge him as the original owner of the hit song, 'Kpolongo'.

Tekno and Danfo Drivers

While speaking in an exclusive interview with PUNCH Saturday Beats, veteran musician, Professor Linkin, came out fully for Pana crooner, Tekno for failing to acknowledge him as the original owner of the song, “Kpolongo”, which he sampled the hit song in his single, “Jogodo”.

According to Professor Linkin who laid his mind bare, Tekno settled Danfo Drivers with N2 million but ignored him.

Recall that in the song, Tekno also sampled some lines from a song originally done by a music duo from Ajegunle named Danfo Drivers. When the music duo raised dust over the use of their material, Tekno settled with them in private and is even set to drop a new single with them soon.

However, all of that didn’t sit well with Professor Linkin who felt Tekno ought to have contacted him too just as he did with the Danfo Drivers.

In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, Prof. Linkin said his issue with Tekno is far from being over till the artiste also acknowledges him as the originator of the word, Jogodo, which was the name of his album in 2003.

He told Saturday Beats that he heard rumours that the Danfo Drivers were placated with N2m for the song when they raised dust. He said, “I am the owner of that song ‘Jogodo’ and I hold the copyright to the name, ‘Jogodo’. Tekno did not inform me before he released the song and the funniest part is that after he made the song and Danfo Drivers complained, he went to meet them to apologise but ignored me. In fact, it was not until Danfo Drivers began to grant interviews to the press stating that Tekno did not inform them before releasing the song that he reached out to them after an event.

“Danfo Drivers are my friends and immediately the news broke that they had made peace with Tekno, I called them and asked why they did not tell him that I am the originator of ‘Jogodo’ but they gave me some excuses and claimed that the singer did not give them anything. I am not dead, so why would someone want to take something I worked hard to get. I am the originator of ‘Jogodo’ in the whole world. I am the only one that can tell people the real meaning of the word ‘Jogodo’. I heard rumours that Teckno paid Danfo Drivers N2m. As my friends, I asked them if it was true and they denied it. When I called to ask them, they said that he did not give them anything than apology. They claimed that they sat down, had some drinks, chatted and took pictures. If they are lying, God is watching them because I cannot read their mind,” the singer said.

Prof. Linkin further said that because they are colleagues, he would not take the case to court but he advised the singer to reach out to him and make amends.

He mentioned his own terms and condition on the matter.  “I am the originator of ‘Jogodo’. Before I sang the song, ‘Jogodo’, no one ever used the slang. It was due to the commercial success of my song that the word ‘Jogodo’ became a slang. I just want Tekno to be remorseful and admit that he made a mistake. We are all human beings. I think he or his management is feeling pompous and I do not know why. Probably Danfo Drivers told them that they own ‘Jogodo’, I just don’t know.

“I would not drag him to court but I would still monitor the situation before I take a final decision. I know dragging him to court is the right thing to do because what he did is illegal but I would wait and watch to see if he would reach out to me. All I need from him is to give me money or we should do a remix of that song together for the world to know that I am the originator of the song. Now, he is making millions with the song but I have not made a dime over my intellectual property because he is acting as if he is the originator of the song. Most of the songs these boys are singing emanated from Ajegunle but they would refine them and make them seem like their own. It is very bad and so painful,” he said

My Son Is Not A Drug Addict - Obasanjo's Ex-wife Cries Out

Taiwo Obasanjo, the ex-wife of former President Olusegun Obasonjo has finally opened up about the troubles in her son's marriage.

Taiwo Obasanjo

An ex-wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Taiwo, has claimed that his son's wife Tope is bent on destroying her son, Olujonwo Obasanjo.

Recall that Olujonwo had about a week ago dragged his wife, Tope, who is the daughter of billionaire businessman, Chief Kessington Adebutu, before the Ogun State Judicial Service Commission and a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Igbosere, over allegations of domestic violence, intimidation and threat to his life.

He said on one occasion, his wife slapped him twice and that she was emotionally unstable, aggressive and ready to attack him in the head anytime. He therefore asked the court for an order directing his wife “to stay apart pending when critical issues in the marriage of the parties are determined,” among other prayers.

But in her counter-affidavit, Tope denied being emotionally unstable, saying it was her husband who subjected her to emotional and psychological hardship by abandoning her in his father’s house and rendering himself incommunicado.

She also alleged that he treated her with cruelty and that he was at an unknown location for drug rehabilitation between the end of January and second week of March 2018.

Meanwhile, her mother, Mrs. Rosemary Adebutu, also alleged that Mrs. Obasanjo collected N4m from her husband, popularly known as Baba Ijebu.

But responding to the allegations, the wife of the former president told Saturday PUNCH that she never took any money from Adebutu and that it was untrue that she and her son were drug addicts, as alleged by Baba Ijebu’s wife.

She said, “I heard they said I took money from him. Chief Adebutu is alive and he can testify whether I collected money from him or not. If I had taken money from him, would I still be able to talk? I never took any money from Chief Adebutu. My son’s wife is just bent on destroying him.

“They also said my son and I are drug addicts, which is a lie. What is the problem if a man wants to quit a marriage that would send him to his grave early?

“They also said my son got a contract worth N35m from Segun Adebutu and that he ran away with the money, which is not true. It is true that he was awarded the job, but he did not abandon the job. He had started executing the job but it was when this problem arose that they called my son to threaten him that there would be war if he decided to leave the marriage. They said they would make sure they finished my son and his wife had said she would destroy him.”

“The unfortunate aspect is Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who has done nothing over this issue, and he’s the one prodding my son’s wife and her mother into continuing this because he wanted my son and his wife to stay in the marriage, so that my son could become collateral for him to keep having access to the Adebutu family.

“I leave them all to God because He’s the one who knows how to reveal things done in the secret and pay people back for their deeds. They think I’m not okay, but everything I warned them against is happening. However, I won’t let them destroy my son.”

Shocking Photo Of Woman Shot Dead By Police Inspector While Lodging Complaint At The Station

A woman who had only gone to lodge a complaint at the police station, has ended up being shot by a police inspector.
The woman was shot dead

According to a report by New Telegraph, a police inspector narrowly escaped being lynched after he shot and killed a woman who went to the station to report that her driver stole and hid her money in Anambra State.

The deceased, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Emeka (38), of Igbuala Ifite Dunu in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, suspecting that the driver of her lorry was not making complete delivery, reported the matter to the police.

The policeman, who went with her to effect arrest of the driver, was said to have been searching the lorry with Ebelechukwu, when his rifle, which was corked, exploded and a bullet hit the complainant.

The woman died on the spot. Immediately the policeman realised that he had killed his complainant, he ran into the nearest bush. When youths in the community found him hiding him in the bush, they stripped and almost lynched him.

It was learnt that Ebelechukwu, along with her husband, went to meet their driver, who allegedly refused to make full delivery of money he worked for on that day.

The Chairman of Aborji Youth, Oba Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Uche Ezeani, where the incident occurred, described the matter as an accident.

Ezeani explained that the policeman came with the woman and her husband to collect delivery money from their truck driver, when the incident occurred.

He said: “I heard that the conductor, who works with the driver of the truck Mercedes Benz M119 reported to the couple that the driver used to hide money in the vehicle. When the husband and wife got to where the vehicle was parked, they entered into the lorry to search it.

The inspector, who was armed, also joined them in searching the vehicle for any hidden money. In the process, the gun trigger was touched and a bullet was released. The bullet hit the woman. She was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead.

“I was walking pass when I saw a crowd. As a community leader, it was my duty to find out what was happening. I saw a woman lying on the ground. When I approached them, they told me that a policeman shot the woman. After shooting her, the policeman ran into the nearby bush.

The youth went into the bush and after a while, found and dragged the policeman out. After I heard what really happened, I prevented the youth from touching him. I instructed them to take him to the police station.”

The Chairman, Human Rights Defenders (HRDN), Mr. Dede Uzor Uzor, commended the Oba Aborji executive members led by Nze Dozie Nweke, the youth leader, Mazi Tony Ezeani and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ojoto Police Station for the roles they played after the incident and in calming the restive youth.

He said: “It was a case of a recalcitrant police officer’s inability to properly place his gun in its protective chamber, leading to reckless shooting. If not that the policeman was quickly rescued and given protection, the youth would have lynched him.”

Uzor appealed to the state Commissioner of Police, for discreet investigation over the matter with the hope of bringing the killer to justice.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said the police inspector was attached to Operation Nkpochapu patrol team and was on duty on Owerri-Oba Road, when he accidentally pulled the trigger of his rifle, without applying safety catch.

Gallant men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have apprehended and arraigned one Efe for alleged fraud.
Efe Egube

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Thursday, June 28, 2018, arraigned one Efe Egube and his firm, Oceanic Energy Services Limited, before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja , Lagos on a two-count charge bordering on forgery and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of N97, 020, 000.00.

The defendant was said to have fraudulently obtained a loan facility from Enterprise Bank( also known as Heritage Bank), with forged documents.

Count one reads: “That you, Efe Egube, Oceanic Energy Services Limited, on or about the 10th day of August, 2013 at Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N97, 020, 000.00 (Ninety-seven Million and Twenty Thousand Naira) from Enterprise Bank (a.k.a. Heritage Bank) by falsely representing that the money was the cost of facilitating a Local Purchase Order (LPO) contract from Dangote Industries Limited, which representation you knew to be false.”

Count two reads: “That you, Efe Egube, Oceanic Energy Services Limited, on or about the 25th day of September, 2013 at Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, knowingly forged a Local Purchase Order (LPO) dated 25th day of September, 2013 with LPO No. 0002775 with intent that the document may in any way be used or acted on as genuine to the prejudice of another.” The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him."

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, Bilikisu Buhari, asked the court for a trial date and prayed that the defendant be remanded in prison custody.

The defence counsel, E.D. Onyeke, informed the court that he had filed and served the prosecution summons for bail on behalf of his client.

He also prayed the court to grant his client bail in liberal terms. However, the prosecution counsel, Buhari, told the court that the defendant was a flight-risk, adding that he once jumped an administrative bail granted him by the Commission.

After listening to both counsel, Justice Taiwo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10million, with two sureties in like sum.

One of the sureties must be a close relation to the defendant, while the other must be a land owner within the jurisdiction of the court. The two sureties must be properly identified and their addresses verified by the Court Registrar.

Justice Taiwo adjourned the case to October 18 and 19, 2018 for commencemnt of trial

“The pilot, three passengers and a pedestrian died in the crash,” the Mumbai Police said in a statement.

The pokice said several fire engines have been pressed into service to douse the flames, a senior fire brigade official said. “We have recovered all the charred bodies.”

Local TV channels showed footage of the aircraft in flames and reported that the pedestrian was passing through the area when he became a victim of the crash.

Senior police officials are overseeing the operations in the area, reports said.

The crash came a day after an Indian Air Force fighter jet crashed in the state. Fortunately, two pilots on board had managed to eject safely.

Mother And Her Baby Detained In LUTH For 4 Months Over Unpaid Bills

A mother and her baby have been reportedly detained at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital over unpaid bills.
Busayo and her child

According to a report by Punch Metro, the husband of a patient at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, Surulere, Mutiu Busari, has said his wife, Busayo, and their baby, Fikayo, have spent over four months in the hospital over unpaid medical bills.

The 32-year-old lamented that his family owed LUTH about N387,200 after Busayo was delivered of Fikayo through a caesarian section.

Mutiu said his wife went into labour on February 27, 2018,  after she was referred to LUTH from the Gbagada General Hospital.

“When we got to LUTH, we were told to do some tests and buy some drugs, which finished all my money. They did the CS the following day and our baby was safely delivered. My wife and baby were discharged on Saturday, March 17, and we were told to pay N61,000 for the drugs my family used from the pharmacy before they can give us the remaining bills.

“I have paid N10,000 from the money. I have no money left on me and the people I have sought help from have just been promising. Aside from the drug bills, I still owed N65,000 for the operation, N20,000 for registration, N14,200 per week for bed space and we have spent four months already.

“Nurses and guards at the hospital are always watching us. They do not allow anyone with outstanding bills to go out until the bills are settled. In fact, during my child’s christening, we begged the nurses to give us a space and we were given a room in the ward where we named the baby Fikayomi in the presence of my aunt, a pastor, my brother and his wife,” he added.

He said he had not returned home since he took his wife to LUTH because he believed neighbours would query him on the whereabouts of both mother and child.

The Osogbo, Osun State indigene, said he had also been struggling to feed his wife and the baby at the hospital.

“I have gone as far as donating blood to raise N6,000 to feed them. I have also gone to construction sites to carry granite and cement to get money; it has been tough for me. I don’t know where to get the hospital bill of over N387,000 from,” he said.

Punch Metro learnt that Mutiu contacted the Public Advice Centre, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, to appeal for funds.

The government agency on his behalf reportedly wrote a non-governmental organisation, Hope for Women in Nigeria, owned by the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode.

It was gathered that Mutiu had yet to receive any support as Busayo and Fikayo were still in Ward C2, LUTH.

Busayo told our correspondent that she was fed up with living in the hospital.

“I have been here since February. Although the hospital has discharged us, we cannot go home because we have not paid our bills,” she said.

The Deputy Chairman, Medical Advising Committee, LUTH, Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, while denying that the hospital detained Busayo and her baby, said a lot of patients owed the hospital.

He said, “LUTH is not a detention centre; we don’t have the means to detain anybody. Why will a hospital of this nature detain a patient when we know that the more you stay in the hospital, the more you don’t make bed space available for other patients?

“What they call detention is that a patient has been discharged, but for one reason or the other he or she is unable to pay, or has refused to pay. There are instances where some patients can really afford to pay their medical bills, but they think that if they stay for a long time the hospital will just allow them to go.

“When patients come in through the Accident and Emergency Unit, the policy of the government does not allow us to send them back; we have to treat them, whether they have money or not. So, once the patients are OK and discharged, it is expected that the money for drug, investigation, blood, admission and others should be paid back because we treated them based on trust.

“We have what is called revolving fund. For example, for the pharmacy, we have what is called drug revolving fund – a pool of money set aside to buy drugs for patients to use and pay back to that pool, so that whenever patients come to the hospital, drugs will be available. It is expected of every patient to pay for that; if they don’t pay, that pool will be depleted. Also, there are some facilities that are sponsored by the Public Private Partnership. You can’t use those facilities without paying.”

The Public Relations Officer, LUTH, Mr Kelechi Otuneme, said the hospital needed patients to replace what they had used for the benefit of others.

He said, “We are not asking for profit; we are asking you to replace the consumables we have used for you, so that another person that needs such a service can benefit from it.”

It was learnt that the medical bill had been reduced to N93,000 after the intervention of some social workers.

Despite the reduction, Busayo and her child had yet to leave the hospital.

Joe Jackson, father to Micheal Jackson

Joe Jackson, 89, father of the late Michael Jackson is dead. The father of 11 died after a battle with cancer in his Los Angeles home on Wednesday.

News of Joe’s death comes two days after the ninth anniversary of Michael’s death.

Here's how she narrated the story in full;

"June 23rd 2018 was the darkest day of my life when someone I regarded as a friend and a sister turned against me and said "let's watch how I can settle down or move on with this unforgettable mark".
I was left in a Delima when she bounced into my room after our misunderstandings outside not knowing she was with an arm to get me blinded for the rest days of my life. Little did I know that a friend I held in high esteem and was willing to take any bullet for was behind the trigger.

#Ann with great pains in my heart I regret not listening to people who have tried their best to tell me your kind of person and to let you out of my life. I regret loving you not just like a friend but like my biological sister. I am always Happy for you come what may! But how do I know that your plan was to get me disfigured for life.

Ranona, Producers Of Fresh Yo Yogurt In Debt Mess

A businessman, Lawal Taofeek, has lamented the loss of his life savings to a deal with Ranona Foods Limited, a subsidiary of a multinational company, Olam Group International.

Taofeek, who owns Keji Enterprises Limited which is managed by his wife, alleged that Ranona, producers of Fresh Yo Yogurt, had failed to repay him a debt of N11.9m.

Punch Metro learnt that the Ibadan, Oyo State indigene, had registered to be a distributor for the company sometime in 2013.
He was said to have been introduced to a sales representative of the company, Oyebode Adewale.

Adewale, however, was reported to have been supplying less of the products paid for by Taofeek’s firm on the pretext that the company had production problems.

He allegedly promised to supply the shortfalls as soon as the goods were ready, as Keji Enterprises reportedly continued paying into the company’s account.

A Punch correspondent learnt that the deficits had piled up when 50-year-old Taofeek demanded a statement of his account.

Punch Metro was told that it became clear that the sales representative had been diverting the goods.
Taofeek claimed that N11.9m goods were stolen by Adewale, adding that the company agreed to refund him the money.

“After I demanded my statement of account from the company, the regional sales manager, Ahmed Soufan, called me and said I should handle the sales rep very well because he had been given all my goods.

“I told him that I could not take the blame because they introduced the guy to me and I paid directly into the company’s account. They said they were not responsible, but after seeing the statement of my account which showed that I transferred directly to the company’s account, they kept quiet.

“They usually issued delivery invoice in triplicate copies – one for the customer, one for the sales rep and one for the company file. But the rep was taking everything without supplying me the goods. There was no evidence that I signed the delivery invoice. That was what saved me,” he added.

Punch correspondent obtained an agreement signed by Taofeek and Soufan, dated November 2015, titled, ‘Agreement between Ranona Limited and Keji Enterprises in respect of his outstanding stocks diverted by Oyebade Adewale.’

In the document, Ranona agreed to owing the distributor N11,944,775.

“That Ranona Limited will add 10 per cent worth of goods to every purchase made by Keji Enterprises forthwith as part-settlement of the outstanding under reference till everything is offset,” the agreement added.

The distributor said the company kept to the agreement for about two months before its factory in the Isolo area was gutted by fire in April 2016.

The yogurt company was said to have been shut down for about one and a half years during which there was a change of ownership.

Taofeek said upon the return of the company, he was sent a distributorship form.

“They sent a sales representative to me, saying they wanted to start afresh. I filled the form and returned it to them. They promised to call all their distributors for a meeting to start the process.

“However, they did not call me when they held the meeting in October 2017. It was one of the distributors who attended the meeting that called my wife to ask why she was not there.

“I called the regional manager, Soufan, to know why we were left out and he said they were looking for big guns and people who had a lot of money to do business. I was surprised because they owed me N11.9m and none of the distributors they invited for the meeting can
Taofeek explained that after much pressure, he was told that a sales representative  of the company would have a meeting with him.

He said after waiting endlessly without hearing from the company, he called the supposed representative, whom he said dribbled him for over a month.

The businessman explained that the representative later called him and denied being told to have a meeting with him.

“After many attempts, the head of the company’s industrial relations, Lawal Adeola, called me and said the company owing me had been liquidated and I should forget about the money.

“If indeed the company had been sold, whoever bought it must have been told he bought both assets and liability. All I want is my money,” he said.

Soufan, however, told Punch Metro that the company had already paid N2m out of the debt owed Taofeek.

“We are not denying it (owing him). We have asked him to come for business, but he refused. He said he wanted money. For one and a half years the company folded up after a fire incident. We just started again and we cannot send him all that money at once.

“We did not invite all our distributors (for the meeting). We only invited a selected few. The fact that he was not called does not mean that we do not want to do business with him,” he said.

Adeola, in his reaction, said the distributor was not telling the truth, adding that the company was still keeping to the agreement.

He said, “There was an agreement that 10 per cent of the goods he buys will be given to him and he reneged on it. He said he was no longer interested in doing business; and what do we do about it?

“He was the one who paid the man who diverted the goods, and despite that, the company accepted responsibility for it. Now, he said he wanted money. Ranona was bought by one of the companies that make up the group.”

The Vice President, Corporate and Government Relations, Olam Nigeria, Ade Adefeko, asked that the enquiries of our correspondent  should be sent to him via email on Tuesday, June 19.

“Will revert to you when my colleague from Ranona responds to my inquiry; he is currently on vacation,” he said in his response after receiving the message.

As of Tuesday, he had yet to get back.

Referee Admitted Ball Touched Argentina Defender's Hand - Mikel Reacts To 2-1 Loss, Future With Nigeria

Captain John Mikel Obi has reacted to the loss of the Super Eagles in the last group stage match against Messi's Argentina.

Mikel speaking after the match

While speaking at the post match briefing in St. Petersburg in Russia, Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, said last night Turkish referee, Cuneyt Cakin accepted that the ball struck the hand of Argentina’s defender, Marcus Rojo in the 82nd minute, but refused to award a penalty.

If the penalty was awarded and scored at a time the match was 1-1, it could have wrapped up a second round ticket for the Eagles and dump Argentina out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Mikel said: "I asked the referee if he thought the ball struck Rojo’s hand and he said ‘yes;. The refeee told me that the ball came off Rojo’s head before it hit his hand.

"I then asked Cakur why he didn’t award the penalty to Nigeria, he said: ‘I don’t know.’ That was sad because we checked the match video in the dressing room and it was a clear penalty kick.

“When the ball touches your hand in the penalty box, it’s a penalty. No two ways about that. Maybe he didn’t want to give us the second penalty. It is sad we had to exit the competition this way."

Speaking about his future with the national team, Mikel said he would be most delighted to lead the boys going further into the future.

"I’m happy playing with this bunch of players. I expect them to grow into a great side and I think this team would make a good impression in the next four years.

"They are good boys with bright future. Of course, we did everything we could; we pushed and pushed to get the goal but it was to be. We want to thank all Nigerians for their support; and we have to keep going.”

Mum Spends £4,000 To Attend Wedding Abroad Only To Be Told Her Five-Month-Old Isn't Welcome

A woman, going by the name Ashley W, shared her story on Netmums , revealing how she had spent £4,000 on flights for her family to attend her cousin's wedding down under.
But when they arrived, her family told her she would have to find a babysitter for her five-month-old daughter as children weren't invited.

The mum says she had known about the nuptials for a year and during that time no one had mentioned that her baby wouldn't be welcome at the ceremony.

It wasn't until the official invitation turned up three weeks before the big day, that she discovered there was going to be a problem.

By this point it was too late, as she'd already booked flights for her family.

She said: "My cousin invited us to his wedding in Australia with 12 months notice.

"Sent us an email with the date no further info. My daughter is five months old. So my family said we would attend and we bought the flights."

She added: "I chased for the actual invitation about 100 times and eventually it arrived three weeks before we flew. The invite said no children. I flagged that they really should have mentioned this before I bought the flight."

When they arrived in Australia, her family weren't impressed that she had brought the child along and suggested she find a babysitter.

She continued: "Am I being unreasonable to think it's a joke they can't make an exception for a breastfeed baby flying from England?

"Don't have kids at your wedding, no problem. Don't make me spend £4k on flights and accommodation to be told that my baby can't come," she said  as she poured out her anger.

Woman Jailed For Accidentally Jogging Into America

A jogger, Cedella Roman, 19, was jailed for two weeks in the U.S. for accidentally crossing the border from Canada, while she was out jogging.

Roman, who lives in France, had been visiting her mother in nearby North Delta, British Columbia. During Roman’s run, she was admiring the scenery when she unwittingly crossed the border from Canada into the United States, reports Washington Post.

The demarcation line between the two countries, it turns out, is only about three miles down the coast from White Rock’s popular wooden pier.

Roman told CBC News she hadn’t seen any signs indicating she was about to cross into the United States but that two U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers approached her shortly after she accidentally left Canada.

“An officer stopped me and started telling me I had crossed the border illegally,” Roman told the news site. “I told him I had not done it on purpose, and that I didn’t understand what was happening.”

Roman  who was not carrying any identification or proof of citizenship with her during her jog  told CBC News she thought the Border Patrol officers might simply let her go with a warning.

That was not to be the case, according to U.S. immigration officials, who confirmed the subsequent events in an email to The Washington Post.

Instead, the Border Patrol arrested Roman on May 21, “processed her as an expedited removal,” then transferred her to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to ICE spokesperson Carissa Cutrell.

On May 22, Roman was taken to ICE’s Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Wash., about 140 miles south of the border point where she had been arrested. She remained detained until June 5 when, after two weeks of paperwork and processing, Roman was taken back to the border “and removed to Canada,” Cutrell said.

When asked why Roman was detained for two weeks, an ICE official indicated that Roman’s status as a French citizen, rather than a Canadian one, may have lengthened the time it took to process her case.
